The other day I it was raining hard in Bangalore. I was driving back from office and from the window I saw a girl driving a Honda-Activa(thats the new scooter girls love these days in India) with a guy maybe a year older than her or the same age sitting behind. Obviously it looked like the both were in love and they did make a good pair. Typical south indian face, both had, so if my guess was right they should be from tamilnad. We had to stop by "a 3minute wait - traffic signal" enroute my home. So the rain had stopped by now and I tried to bring down the window glass. With a roar the rain started and I got a little wet. I couldnt help looking at that pair and gave a glance where they stood. A quick movement, the girl turned around and pecked a small kiss on the guy's cheek. Oops, now I am embarassed, good they didnt notice me. I then looked at that guy, he was literally blushing and was feeling the pride.. that his girl gave him a kiss! I could see it in his eyes!!! I am not for kissing at signals,on the road seriously but then this gave me a moment to contemplate on how wide our minds have become to accept such things and how westernized (so - called) people have turned into! India, must be really changing I felt. I am somehow not so comfortable to witness such gestures, may be am a little narrow minded but then,I could feel the love in the air. Good feeling. Only those in love can enjoy such moments, for a spectator,it could arouse a lot of thoughts just like how it affected me.. and made me write this blog...
Who is a friend? Well this is a question which would recieve multiple answers when you ask the same question to people of different ages. Here goes my interpretation of friends And who've all made my life meaningful through this lovely relationship!
My first known friend was called Madhana
She lived few blocks away, but was too close to my heart
Her brother and my sister went to school together
And that paved way for the fun we had.
Then came school - (Vikaasa primary)
Bindhya,Indu,Sathya,Bala to name some
Cant forget Siddhu's lies and Dwaritha's silence!!
Can I ever forget my first class teacher and friend Shanthi Bala??
(I met her after I finished my studies and joined my first job
She hugged me and said "how are you my darling"
just the same way she did on my first day to school.)
I was pampered at home, so going to school meant hell to me
I used to cry every other day till I crossed 2nd standard
The reason I stopped crying was Madhana(another) and Nisha
My best friends in Junior school(Vikaasa Tuticorin).
Now Madhana is an engineer and Nisha an Fine Arts grad,
hardly we knew we'd land up in varied fields,
coz then all we loved was Barbie, Enid Blyton and Pick Wick wafers!!! (Love them still)
Then came senior school(Vikaasa Ambas),
I crossed path with the same Indhu I met in KG
She had grown up into a beautiful lady and
switched to this school just like me!
She had a friend called Debbie,so she became mine too!
Back to square one (Vikaasa Madurai)
Met Bala,Sathya,and few others.
All grown up!!
Got new pals called Karen and Saranya.
Lunched, played Hockey, giggled and grinned with them.
Then moved out from Vikaasa legacy
To join a new world called Jeevana
Friend at first Sight Seema,
She is the BEST till date
A sense of belongingness,a sense of comfort
All I sense with her..She is far away in the US,
but then thoselong hours spent at her place and mine are still afresh on my mind!
College, that too a ladies college (Lady Doak)
Awesome,last bench ladies,gang of twenty,
naughty, caught for bunking class and sleeping on the cool floor of the college chapel,
dismissed for playing cards in the campus, toppers in class, what else can you ask for Riz,Amutha,Ramya,Muthu,Vidya, the list is too long to narrate...
Then came post grad (MK University)
A forest literally. more than 100 acres of departments and labs..
Surrounded by lush green meadows and a hill.
Prakash,Anbu and Anshu seated next to me
From day 1 to end... they are the best.
My final year project in a big company
At Satyam chennai,
how can i forget Kamakshi,Emmu,Alok?
Those long hours of work
did a lot to me, set up a thinking flame in me
Buring bright till today!!
Then came Patni,my first company
Thomas,venkatesh,vikram and kamesh
all memories still so new in me.....
At oracle,my life became smooth
with Meera,my room mate, deskmate,
best friend, best collegue... she made my stay there meaningful
Today at office(Fidelity) I sit thinking of all of them
very few have net/email access,
some have forgotten my existence
few are regularly in touch
But then if I could ask for something in life
I want a day exclusively with each one of them
In solitude and peace
To talk all these years of life
and give a tight hug to say how muchI missed them all along
and a firm handshake for gratitude to tell them what I am today
is but because of them in some way!
Love you all!!
Growing up as one
Then split to three
The 3 daughters my parents have
Is all what am gonna write here about
The eldest being an active admirer
Of colors,paint and rangoli
Decided her studies to go the chemical way
And with under graduation in her pocket
Decided its time to settle in wedlock
Said ok to the first eligible bachelor
Appa had sought,good times begun,
Today ,never has a day begun without thinking of her
And her lovely little daughters, the thieves of my salary till date,
And who make me really admire girls!
The youngest daughter being the most attractive
I am sure all this cheer and magnet work
Owes to the pamper dad,mom and sisters give
Now all set for an MBA is exploring her ways in the B-School.
And should I say about the middle one...?
Yes,thats me, if I talk more, you'd call it self conceit
If less, you'd call me modest
Let me have it there, just right in the middle
Mother of a little bundle of joy aged 1,
Identical to me in every aspect explained,
He is THE SON! So very smart with his cars, games, tweety bird and Oswald!
Words cant quite explain this person(me) you see.
Am exploring it myself..... Yes all by myself!
Now the families are 3 in number
The marriages being the reason
But the mind is one
Nothing would compare to the fun
The three still have
Amidst loud cries of kids and peacefully sleeping son in laws !!
Dad and mom never worried they had no sons
Today they are happy with grand children,
One on their lap,one running between their legs
And the rest breaking our house into two!
And they claim nothings better
Than sharing the bed with all of them
Tucked inbetween my parents
One kicking appa at sleep, another wetting the bed,
One holding to amma's palm and all of them secure
Amidst their real life saviours and best supporters at all times of troubles!!
Nothing like a united family, thats strength incomparable in other words!!
If you've ever come across a Vikaasite (alumnus of the famous Vikaasa school), you would know why I took all the pains to scribble such a big note on my school. The school is truly one of its kind and deserves mention to every human being I meet in this world. I started my kindergarten there. Which school today has a toy train around the school, ample play hours, no writing work, no exams, sleeping hours, gardening time, a day dedicated to art, craft and music?? I can hear you say very few.. or can even be none.. A kindergarten is the time when a child gets moulded, when we entered school, our teachers were there at the entrance , welcoming us with open hands and would carry our lunch bags to our lockers. Then the classes would begin, yup in the garden. An hour of gardening in the early afternoon. So lovely to see the plants that we had sweated to plant and nurture bear flowers, fruits or vegetables! You know what, every plant that you have planted has a placard with its name and yours! Isnt that cute!!
Then come the music and dance hours when our teachers used to play the piano/guitar and sing and dance with us with the very famous nursery rhymes! I cant forget the "Incy Wincy Spider" and "Sing a song of sixpence", my teachers taught me with action. Trust me even today I remember all my nursery rhymes by heart (some even with the actions they taught ;-)
After having lunch seated at your "ma'am's lap" , all of us would sleep for a lovely hour. Get up, get ready after washing your face. And leave for home! Yup the school would last from 9 to 1 only everyday! And not to forget that our school was located on a hill called "Pasumalai" (that means cow+hill in Tamil). It was an old English building, while thoroughly, stone pillars and benches, cute swimming pool and a very very tidy lawn! If you want to know how my school looks like take a drive to Madurai and ask for Taj - Garden Retreat Hotel. Yes by all means our school qualified to be a star hotel and is now owned by the Taj group of Hotels!! More will follow to speak about the ever lasting school days!!!!!!!!
