THE BEAUTY OF OLD WOMEN

When I was flipping through the pages of an old book I came across this wonderful quote by Harriet Beecher Stowe
"So much has been said and sung of beautiful young girls, why don't somebody wake up to the beauty of old women?"

So much truth in this expression. I particularly love women who are aged - be it Indians or women from any part of the globe who carry themselves very well. I met an old lady in a very small village recently, she is over 90 years- she still toils in the little bit of agricultural land that she owns, has never been to the doctor at all - she has 3 children, all of them educated and settled in different parts of the country. She also told me that she took care of her delivery all by herself! WOW!! I asked her for her name, she said you can call me paati (thats how you say grandmother in tamizh). Her husband, as she recalls was'nt a great contributor to the family's wellness. So she had to take charge all life and she says she doesnt remember a day in her life when she didnt work! She still takes care of her mom in law, another wonderful lady who is a little over 120 years!! This mother in law chose to live with her daughter in law rather than her son, who has another family and lives in another village few miles away. Such brave ladies - I was dumbstruck at their guts and courage! So much to learn from such woman - in this day where we sulk and fret over trivial things, these woman have taken things so light and are still working so hard at this age!!
There is this signboard somewhere in richmond road which has an old lady posing for a diamond jeweller - I simply adore her confidence, charm and glow. The signboard simply beats anything thats made attractive with younger men and women, I feel. The person on the signboard really does carry herself very well I should say!

Begining with the women we meet at home like our grand aunts, grand mothers and even our mothers - there is a inexplainable beauty in whatever they do. Sometimes in their courage, sometimes in theway they keep the home spic and span, the way they cook, they organize, they aid the family by working apart from home etc.

Every young woman today is in the process of aging gracefully, and to all those lovely woman, there's just one thing I want to say - beauty is not in spotless skin,an hourglass figure or expensive clothes but its in the way you take life and manage it with those special qualities that only we are blessed with called love, patience and courage!

Deekshanya,
Aged people are like matured child.
They know the facts by experience and behave as child due to physical nature.
That was a nice article.
I thought about my grandma....

Be it men or women, those who live as an example to others should be respected and brought to the notice of others , I feel!

Deekshanya,

Thanks for visiting my page and leaving your comments there. Thank You.

Here is what I wrote in my post:
http://anbusivam.blogspot.com/2007/08/humanculture-vs-agriculture.html

//After publishing my earlier post on Leadership = Gardening , I had been to an interior village in Tamilnadu to attend one of my cousins family function. Every time I go there I would say the amount of knowledge and wisdom I get is always in abundance. Yeah, it’s from an 80yrs old Granny nearby. The way she interacts with people is amazing and I’ve never seen such a person in our great corporate houses. Lessons one could learn from her can never be found in any best sellers or from great management gurus. It had come all the way from her 80yrs of lively experience in that small village. She could relate any personal relation with agriculture and cultivation. Here, I am posting few of my learning’s form our Granny’s wisdom.//

Yes, Elderly Women are always graceful...!!!
