Difference ....

There are few words used alternatively, but they are different.. Here are such commonly mistaken ones...

1) A rabbit and a hare?

Hares are generally larger, and have longer hind legs and longer ears than rabbits. When hares are born, they have a full coat of fur and their eyes are open. Their mothers either drop them on the bare ground at birth or into a slight depression in the ground. A young hare is called a leveret. Hares are solitary creatures.

Rabbits, on the other hand, are more compact. Their young, called bunnies, are born hairless and blind. The mother rabbit lines a nest with grass, bark and soft stems. Over this, she places a layer of hair that she plucks from her own body. When she leaves the nest, she covers the bunnies with more hair and dead plants to keep them warm and hidden from enemies. Rabbits are slightly shorter legged, and are happy living in groups.

2) Snooker and Billiards

The tables, the balls used, the cues, the rules, there's loads of differences between the two!!

3) Bottled/Mineral Water ,Distilled Water and Purified Water

Distilled water is water that has been recondensed from steam. Water is heated to boiling and the water vapor (steam) is collected and condensed back into a pure liquid. Any impurities like minerals, stay as a residue in the original liquid, separate from the distilled water. Distilled is probably considered the most pure.

Bottled water is tougher because it takes many forms: spring, purified, and mineral are the most common but there is also sparkling, artesian, etc. Spring water, like Evian, comes from groundwater that rises to the surface naturally. The composition of this water is not allowed to be changed before it is bottled.

Mineral water is water naturally containing not less than 250 parts per million total dissolved solidsPurified water is basically tap water that has gone through additional treatment processes like filtration, reverse osmosis and/or ozonation to remove more impurities and make the water taste better. It is almost always more pure than your tap water.

4)Black salt and Normal Salt(white)

Black salt (kala namak) is an unrefined table salt with a strong sulfurous taste. Contrary to what its name suggests, this salt is pink in color and has only a faint salty taste (due to its high mineral content). It is used extensively in Indian cuisine as a condiment as well as in ayurvedic medicine and is commonly sold in the form of a fine, almost completely odorless powder.

Edible salt, also called table salt or just salt, is a mineral, one of a very few rocks commonly eaten by humans. There are different forms of edible salt: unrefined salt, refined salt, table salt or iodised salt. It is a crystalline solid, white, pale pink or light grey in colour, obtained from sea water or from rock deposits.

5) Airplane and Aeroplane

Aeroplane is the standard form in British English. Airplane is the normal form in American English, and it is sometimes found in British English also.

6) Piano,Organ and Synthesiser

The organ has 2 keyboards: The upper and the lower, and usually, in the upper keyboard (Which is played with the right hand) you play the melody and in the lower keyboard (which is played with the left hand) you play the accompainment.Aditionally it has several pedals in the bottom and are played with the left foot. This is for the Bass sound. The volume is regulated with another pedal in which you make the expression to each melody. This pedal is controled with the right foot.

The piano has just 1 big keyboard. The melody is played usually with the right hand and the accompainment and bass with the left. The volume is regulated with the intensity you applay to the keys.

The synthetizer has just 1 keyboard. Usually is used or to accompain or to play the melody (but not both). The volume is regulated with a knob. The home synths usually have their own internal speakers. The professionals have to be amplificated externally. The keys are sensible to the pressure of the hand, similar to the piano, only that they are soft and this characteristic is to get or more volume or vibrato or brightness.

7) Notebook and Laptop

Laptop: A portable computer small enough to use on one's lap.

Notebook: A light, portable computer that is generally thinner than a laptop.Laptop computers are more frequently called notebook computers, though technically laptops are somewhat smaller in size than notebooks.
